Lucy Tarrant
I am one of the founding partners, and the managing director, of Cognitive Law. I have over 30 years of financial and contractual dispute resolution experience, 25 of those years as a qualified Solicitor. I have worked both in private practice as a litigation partner, employment solicitor and as in-house counsel.
I am one of the founding partners, and the managing director, of Cognitive Law. I have over 30 years of financial and contractual dispute resolution experience, 25 of those years as a qualified Solicitor. I have worked both in private practice as a litigation partner, employment solicitor and as in-house counsel.
My career has been one of firsts. The beginning of my career set the tone when I became the first ever trainee solicitor at Lloyds TSB Bank plc having put together a proposal of how to structure a training contract. That also rewarded me with sponsorship by the Bank to complete the LPC at the College of Law.
Another first was my appointment as the first in-house lawyer at the G2 Group, affording me a unique insight into the recruitment industry and invaluable hands-on experience.
My latest first has been setting up Cognitive Law as an ABS with my non-lawyer business partner, to re-think the delivery of legal services to corporate clients.
During my career I have: advised on contractual matters involving personal service companies, umbrella companies, RPOs, and payroll companies; acted for high street banks, asset based lenders, PLCs, limited companies, partnerships and sole traders; and handled a variety of disputes including contractual claims, financial services disputes, insolvency, invoice discounting and recruitment.
I specialise in providing commercial legal services to the recruitment sector and focus on a wide variety of contractual issues, prioritising dispute prevention before dispute resolution. My clients have round the clock access to partner level advice from a specialist in their sector who applies a practical and commercial approach to every case.
In cases where a dispute arises, I conduct the majority of my own advocacy in both the County Court and the High Court. My expertise extends from simple debt recovery to High Court litigation. I have been praised for my straightforward, no-nonsense approach to dispute resolution, as well as for the support that I provide to my clients.
I have designed a fixed fee debt recovery package for corporate clients which maximises recoverability and minimises costs. I have also written standardised document suites for general credit control and debt recovery, as well as bespoke credit management procedures for corporate clients.
I have drawn on my years of commercial, financial, and legal experience to provide cash flow management training via seminars and 1-to-1 sessions, guiding clients through the processes of constructing internal systems to maximise their profit.
When I’m not working, I attempt to keep fit by running and going to the gym. Unfortunately, I usually negate all my best intentions, as I’m a social creature and like nothing more than spending time with my friends and family enjoying good food and fine wine!
